Welcome to Laura's Plog. London-based, occasionally humorous musings of someone who wants to write a novel but is not good at delayed gratification. Enjoy - I am!
I rather think the word 'Common' here is a proper noun and denotes the unenclosed tract of land that is found in Wimbledon.
Thus: 'The Wombles of Wimbledon Common are we' rather than: The Wombles of Wimbledon Common are we'
as you have it where the implied pause at the erroneous end of your line allows for the misprision that 'common' is an adjective limiting 'the Wombles' themselves.
Laura, I hope you checked with RSN first that A. Pedant isn't actually him? It is ok to love your dad but I think there are rules somewhere about suggesting that you are in love with him...

A. Pedant
A. Pedant,
I think I am in love. No-one has ever used the word "misprision" to me before.
That is all.

Nice Kate
The investigation into the identity of A. Pedant is complete. I don't want to talk about it.
